Melon

Melon

Melon (Cucumis melo) is a monoecious herbaceous plant with crawling stems. It is cultivated for its fruit, a summer berry with high water content and sweet taste.

The shape of the fruit ranges from spherical to ellipsoidal. The colour of the epidermis and pulp varies according to the group. The epidermis can be white, grey, greenish or yellow and has a smooth, rough or reticulated texture. The pulp is aromatic, with a soft texture and different colours: yellow, green, pink and intermediate tones. In the centre, there is a cavity containing many seeds coated with a sticky substance.

Nutritionally, it is low in sodium, fat and cholesterol. It is a good source of vitamin B6, folic acid, potassium and very good in vitamin C.
